About

STITCHING

Stitching involves combining overlapping footage captured by multiple cameras on the rig and arranging them into a single outcome to produce a fully immersive 360° image/video. It involves the removal of distortion, matching overlapping footage, and aligning frames.

360° VIDEO

A 360° video enables the viewer to view the environment simultaneously from 360 degrees.

HAPTICS (TOUCH FEEDBACK)

Haptics technology stimulates the sensation of touch by applying forces, vibrations or motions to the user through feedback devices. Haptic devices, like gloves and suits are under development. These will ensure a fully immersive experience of the digital world.

PRESENCE

Presence is the perception of being physically present in a nonphysical world. It is the ability to take you somewhere other than where you really are, and trick your mind into believing it. The greater the suspension of disbelief, the greater is the degree of presence achieved.

FIELD OF VIEW (FOV)

Field of view, in virtual reality is the extent of observable environment visible through the VR headset at a given point of time. The wider the field of view, the more present the user is likely to feel in the experience.

CARDBOARD

Cardboard is the lowest cost mobile VR headset available, that turns smartphones into VR devices. Users can either build their own cardboard version with simple, low-cost components, or purchase a pre-manufactured one online.

VR HEADSET (OR HEAD MOUNTED DISPLAY – HMD)

A VR headset, also known as a head mounted display, is a head apparatus which enables users to explore, experience and immerse themselves into the virtual environment. The two main types of HMD's are high-end tethered headsets and mobile headsets.

AR (AUGMENTED REALITY)

Augmented Reality turns the environment around you into a digital interface by superimposing computer-generated images on the user’s view of the real world. It adds to the reality rather than replacing it, and can be experienced through a smartphone or a wearable device.

VR (VIRTUAL REALITY)

Virtual Reality is an immersive three-dimensional simulation of a computer generated environment that allows the user to experience and interact with the artificial world, through a head-mounted display that positions the viewer in the virtual world.

MIXED REALITY

Mixed Reality, also known as hybrid reality, is a combination of Virtual and Augmented reality. It produces a new environment where the user can see and experience both, the real world and virtual environment together at the same time.

IMMERSION

Immersion is a unique experience for the user, capable of producing a sensation of presence, to an extent that they believe the artificial environment as the real world.

REFRESH RATE

Refresh rate is the rate at which the frames in a virtual reality experience move. This can be controlled to move at a faster or slower rate, to enhance the user experience. A standard of 60 frames per second is recommended.

HEAD TRACKING

Head tracking is a technology that identifies, recognizes, and keeps a track of the user's head movement in a predefined space. In VR, it enables the movement of the camera in the same orientation as the user’s head.

DATA GLOVE

Data Glove, also known as a weird glove, is an interactive device which facilitates physical interaction with the environment, and motion control. In VR, it enables user engagement and immersiveness through haptic feedback rather than just making gestures.

DIRECTIONAL SOUND

Directional sound refers to the non-mainstream sound that comes from a specific area, apart from the overall background sound. It ensures a much more realistic effect, and directs the viewer towards the action in the VR experience.

SOCIAL VR

Social VR aims to provide realistic and satisfying social experiences in virtual reality. It facilitates sharing the VR arena and interacting with other users in the VR world.

WEB VR

WebVR Is an Experimental Javascript program interface that provides access to Virtual Reality Devices in the web browser.

CINEMATIC VR

Cinematic VR is created and generated through real images rather than computer generated graphics. It is recorded using 360 degree cameras or a rig with multiple GoPro cameras.
